Behind the Museo de Artes Populares in Patzcuaro you can see pre-hispanic stone structures, and a replica of a traditional house.  The Museo is built upon the same site as the original Colegio de San Nicolás (the first university in the Americas).

 

Also behind the Museo, you can see a wall that used to be part of a cell the Jesuits used.  The marks on the wall were made by prisoners marking off the number of days they had been locked up.
