In Colima, in the weeks leading up to the 12th of December (the feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe), people visit the various altars to the Virgin.

Many people wear traditional outfits of white cotton with red cross stitch when they visit the altars to the Virgin.  The blouses generally have an image of the Virgin on the front.

People gather in centro in the evenings, after visiting the altar to the Virgin at the Basilica Menor, or to do some shopping at the many stalls selling Christmas ornaments and traditional food.  Here the crowd watches a performance by a clown.

The second annual government sponsored piņata contest.  Held in early December, competing piņatas from across the state are on display at the DIF Estatal building in the week before the first posadas.  Cash prizes were awarded for 1st-4th place, with first place winning 6,000 pesos.  I think that they should also offer a people's choice award, decided by votes from the public.
